The first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on One Nation, One Election will be held here on Wednesday.
The JPC is mandated to review the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which aim to align elections at the national and state levels.
Wednesday’s meeting is being held with a primary focus on introducing the members to the two key bills. The Committee will be briefed by Ministry of Law & Justice (Legislative Dept) officials on the provisions of the proposed laws. JPC Chairman P.P. Chaudhary has called the meeting.
