The Nehru Zoological Park commenced the first batch of summer camps for 25 children and their parents here on Saturday.
During the camp launched by Curator J Vasantha, the children were taken around the zoo and briefed about the animals, their habitat, behaviour and their breeding plans in the zoo.
Charles Holmes Zoo, UK, director and Wildlife expert Melissa interacted with the children at the tigers’ enclosure and gave a short lecture on the wild animals and their role in biodiversity.
A reptiles awareness show was also organised where live demonstrations captivated children who were explained about the difference between venomous and non-venomous snakes besides preventive measures to be taken if a snake bites.
The camp will be organised till the last week of June. Registration fee is Rs 1,000 per participant, which includes snacks and vegetarian lunch. Candidates will be provided a kit consisting of a cap, notepad, and badge with NZP, Hyd logo. Only students of Classes V to X are eligible to participate in the camp.
