A 21-year-old man from Karnataka died after consuming five full bottles of liquor without water in a deadly bet with his friends. The incident took place in Mulbagal town of Kolar district. The deceased, Karthik, reportedly took up a challenge posed by his friend Venkata Reddy, who promised to pay him Rs 10,000 if he could finish five bottles of liquor neat. Eager to prove himself, Karthik began drinking in the presence of Reddy, Subramani, and three other friends.
According to police sources, Karthik managed to drink all five bottles but soon began showing signs of alcohol poisoning. His condition worsened rapidly, and his friends rushed him to a local hospital in Mulbagal. Despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to the effects of excessive alcohol consumption during treatment.
Karthik had been married for just over a year, and his wife had given birth to a child merely eight days before the tragic incident. Local authorities have registered a case and are probing the circumstances surrounding the death, including whether the friends could be held liable for encouraging or facilitating the act. Police said the incident highlights the dangers of binge drinking and peer pressure.
